History of American Spice & Seasoning, Inc.

Adkins products are used by many people competing in BBQ and Chili Cook-offs throughout TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, ARKANSAS and LOUISIANA. Some of the contests have been at the HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO BBQ COOK-OFF to small company picnics. The results of such cook-offs have brought top awards to many contestants who use the term "My secret ingredients".

From communications received from all over the country, our Fajita Seasoning has become a top seller not only for fajitas, but also as an all purpose seasoning for beef, chicken, pork, lamb, seafood and vegetables. We are one of the few companies that offer a 100% guarantee on all spice blends. And we do several private labels!

The spice blend for our original Western Style BBQ Seasoning was started by Hoyt Adkins in 1967. It was just a simple blend of spices used on a personal basis in his home. The compliments were such by all who tasted his cooking that he decided to market the blend through small meat markets in the Dallas area. His son, Paul Adkins was an avid hunter and enjoyed making his own sausage, so that is how the Sausage Seasonings developed.

Texas is a state known far and wide as a place to get really good chili! Hence our Chili Seasoning evolved and can be eaten by all members of any family.

In 1980 after having the products blended by a large firm, Paul and Hoyt decided to have their first stainless steel blender built and rented their first warehouse. All of the family made up the work-force to blend, package and market the products. Larger chain grocery stores were acquired as new customers and the fun began!

Every day would bring letters or telephone calls from people who had moved from Texas or visited and tried one or more of our seasonings but were having a difficult time finding them in their new place of residence. Our mail-order business evolved from "died-in-the -wool" customers. Our products contain only all natural spices with no Monosodium Glutamate or preservatives.

Hoyt and Paul have now passed away, but three Adkins’ family members are still blending, packaging, and selling with most of their original employees. We like to think of ourselves as really a family.
